TAMPA, Fla. – A man shot and killed his 5-year-old daughter and critically wounded his 8-year-old son Monday night in Hillsborough County, deputies said.
Deputies said Jermaine Bass shot his children in the head minutes after his wife put them to bed and kissed them goodnight.

The girl died at a hospital, according to sheriff’s officials, who said the boy was in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office said Bass claimed the shooting was an accident, despite both children being shot multiple times.
“You don’t accidentally shoot your children three to four times in the head,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
Bass was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
