Florida police arrest 2 after fires, car does donuts in intersection

Anwar Yasser Awdi, 24, and Jawad Yasser Awdi, 19, arrested following brief pursuit

TAMPA, Fla. – Two men face charges after a “reckless” takeover of a Tampa intersection where fires were lit while a car did donuts early Saturday morning, according to police.

Anwar Yasser Awdi, 24, and Jawad Yasser Awdi, 19, were arrested following a brief pursuit.

Officers were called to the intersection of West Kennedy Boulevard and North MacDill Avenue after several vehicles blocked off the intersection.

Video from the department’s helicopter showed a fire being set in the middle of the intersection while a green Ford Mustang did donuts, leaving skid marks on the asphalt.

Police said officers on the ground tried to stop the Mustang, but it took off. The helicopter managed to follow the car, allowing officers to catch up with it in the parking lot of a mini-mart a short distance later.

Anwar Yasser Awdi faces charges of unlawful racing on a highway and fleeing an officer. Jawad Yasser Awdi faces a charge of unlawful racing on a highway.
