Scott, of Ormond Beach, was found guilty last week on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and neglect of a child causing great bodily harm.
According to prosecutors, Scott was taking care of Damon when the infant wouldn’t stop crying. Scott then hit the 5-month-old repeatedly and dropped him on the floor to get him to stop crying, prosecutors said.
When first responders got to the scene, they found Damon unresponsive and dehydrated. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the arrest report, while at the hospital, staff found that the infant had bruises at various stages of healing, cuts on his face and a suspected cigarette burn behind his ear.
“Baby Damon suffered through five months of hell and ultimately died at the hands of his father,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said. “What he suffered is unimaginable.”
