Girlfriend of prisoner says she warned law enforcement of escape plan

Prisoner tried seeking mental health services prior to escape, she said

SHARPES, Fla. – A state prisoner faces new charges, including escape, after the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said he walked away from a program earlier this week.

Thursday, the prisoner’s girlfriend said she feared Greg Mountcasel, 32, was planning an escape and said she called the Bridges work release program on Camp Road to alert authorities.

‘’I let them know it was going to happen because he kept telling me he was going to do it,’’ Melissette Gonzalez said.

She said Mountcasel told her he planned on cutting his ankle monitor.

The sheriff’s office said Mountcasel cut of the monitor before walking away from the facility and being captured 12 hours later.

Thursday, a judge denied bond for Mountcasel.

Mountcasel was convicted last summer for fleeing and eluding, and driving without a license.

While working in the release program, Gonzalez said her boyfriend asked to see a mental health expert.

News 6 asked the Department of Corrections for any comment, though they have yet to respond.

‘’He begged and begged and begged for help prior to this happening, and they wouldn’t listen,’’ Gonzalez said.

She said she hopes her boyfriend gets to see the doctor while in custody at the county jail.
