Orange County student cut on face with ‘vape device’ during fight, taken to hospital

Cypress Creek High School placed on hold during altercation

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Cypress Creek High School student was injured during a fight Wednesday and taken to a hospital, according to sheriff’s officials.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the incident, which prompted a hold at the school.

Two students were involved in the fight, according to Orange County Public Schools, which said, “The altercation between two students resulted in a cut on a student’s forehead that may have been caused by a vape device.”

During the hold, classes continued and students remained in their classrooms.

A message from the principal, which can be heard below, was sent to families.

The message, in part, says, “In addition, students who record or post videos of such behavior may also face disciplinary consequences. Please discuss this with your students.”

“It is very, very scary, especially when we don’t know what’s going to happen next to someone else at school,” parent Gloria Leytun told News 6.

She said that she was in shock when she picked her son up from school on Wednesday.

“Right now, we don’t know if we’re going to bring him tomorrow because we don’t know what’s going to happen next,” she said.

Meanwhile, Pedro Laboy was picking up his grandson on Wednesday, and he told News 6 that he couldn’t believe the fight happened when he first heard about it.

“It’s scary how life is going,” Laboy said. “Unfortunately, young people don’t have that pause to think about it. It’s the only thing I can say. I don’t know too many details about what happened, but yeah, it’s unfortunate that it’s always violence involved.”

Details about what led to the fight have not been released.
