WINTER PARK, Fla. – In light of recent burglaries throughout the city, Winter Park Police held its quarterly Neighborhood Advisory Committee on Tuesday with many people turning out hoping to discuss the recent uptick in crime.
After the January crime spree, News 6 received a tip about burglaries continuing to happen.
Since then we’ve spoken to neighbors and police to try and get answers , which is why News 6 attended Tuesday night’s NAC meeting.
We spoke to Rich Ott who lives on one of the streets impacted by the recent crime.
“I would hope that Winter Park’s doing their job, which we have full faith and credit in Winter Park system,” Ott said.
Ott said he has lived in Winter Park for 20 years and said he’s never seen this many burglaries happen in such a short amount of time.
According to the department’s Crime Anaylst, Darcy Cosentino, 18 burglaries have happened since December 2023 and 11 of them have similarities.

As far as suspects go, the department said it’s hard to say who all is involved.
“I think that it is fair to say some of the burglaries are associated with an organized group and that there’s other burglaries where we’re not sure where we’re not sure if it’s an organized group or a single person,” said Winter Park Police Chief, Timothy Volkerson.
Chief Volkerson also took the time to address quote ‘misinformation’ about the burglaries including the claim by some that the suspects were accessing some of the homes by boat.
“So we have absolutely no pieces of information at this time to substantiate that anyone is using a boat to commit any of these burglaries,” Volkerson said.
Winter Park Police said if you live in the area and want to stay up to date with recent crime trends, you can view a crime report that is updated weekly by clicking here.
