ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The family of a 14-year-old girl who was killed last week when a tree fell on top of a car has set up a GoFundMe to help raise money for funeral expenses.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the girl was in the back passenger seat of a car traveling south Thursday night on Reams Road near Summerlake Boulevard when the tree fell on the roof of the vehicle. Severe weather was moving through the area at the time, but troopers have not confirmed whether storms played a role in the girl’s death.
The GoFundMe identified the teen as Kayden Avera.
“Kayden brought so much love and joy into the lives of all that knew her and she will be deeply missed. As we come to terms with Kayden’s passing, her family is faced with the difficult task of arranging her final farewell,” the post reads.
Troopers said the driver, a 40-year-old woman, and another passenger, a 12-year-old boy, were uninjured in the crash.
The teen’s mother said Kayden was heading home with her brother from his football practice when the accident happened. She said Kayden loved boxing and was into art.
She would have turned 15 on June 25.
