ORLANDO, Fla. – Local 6 has learned the teen driver who troopers said caused the mass casualty crash between a Lynx bus and two cars was pregnant.
As Cedrick Campbell paced outside the Orlando Regional Medical Center, he told Local 6 that his girlfriend, Keeshay Pruitt, 18, was involved in the massive crash and that she 11 weeks pregnant at the time.
Campbell said Pruitt is in stable condition.
Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol spent the evening at ORMC, hoping to talk to the young driver who caused the crash that injured herself and 10 other people.
Troopers said the crash happened just before 5 p.m. Monday, when Pruitt's car pulled off 42nd Street and into oncoming traffic along Rio Grande Avenue. A Lynx bus was unable to stop in time and crashed into Pruitt's car, sending it crashing into another oncoming car.
"She got hit when she ran into the bus, but it wasn't the bus driver's fault," said Shirley Hood, who was watching from across the street.
She and other witnesses rushed to check on the victims.
Neighbors have seen accidents at this corner before, but nothing like this.
Susie Smith lives across the street and called it "A humongous crash, just huge. It was like a bomb went off. Boom!"
The three female drivers all were injured along with passengers on the bus. As paramedics took victims out one by one, the person with the most injuries, Pruitt, sat trapped inside her car. Rescue crews had to rip off the car's roof to free the pregnant teen.
"I saw them use the jaws of life and take the roof off and smash the glass because they couldn't get her out," said Smith.
Troopers have ticketed that pregnant teen for failing to yield.
Campbell said doctors were able to hear the baby's heartbeat.

A Lynx bus was involved in a three vehicle crash in Orange County on Wednesday afternoon, Orange County fire officials said.
Authorities said one person was extricated from a car and taken to the hospital. At least 11 people were suffering from minor to serious injuries. Authorities said 10 people were transported to area hospitals and one person was treated on scene by paramedics and declined transportation to the hospital.
The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on Rio Grande Avenue and 41st Street when two cars crashed into the bus, according to fire rescue officials.
Investigators said they believe one of the drivers was trying to drive around the bus when the car crashed into it.
Fire rescue officials said the first fire crews arrived within three minutes.
Local 6 news helicopter Sky 6 was there as Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigated and roped off several streets in the area. It's not clear what caused the crash.
