Officials closed traffic-way after malfunction

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – An electrical malfunction forced officials to close the Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach, but it reopened several hours later, officials said.

The bridge was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic at 8 a.m. after the malfunction made the drawbridge inoperable, Volusia County officials said.

A crew from Volusia County's Road and Bridge Division opened the bridge manually to permit boat traffic while the bridge undergoes repairs. The bridge reopened around noon, four hours earlier than expected.

Motorists were asked to use the bridges at Seabreeze Avenue and International Speedway Boulevard while the Main Street Bridge was closed.
