Orlando breaks grounds for Tinker Field History Plaza

ORLANDO, Fla. – History was made for the groundbreaking of the Tinker Field History Plaza at Camping World Stadium. Orlando city commissioners and the community celebrated the groundbreaking. 

According to the city’s news release, the Orlando City Council approved an ordinance designating Tinker Field as Orlando’s historic landmark in 2015.

After more than a year of public input, design and research, the Orlando City Council approved the project last December. Tinker Field opened in 1923 and hosted several of baseball’s greatest players. 

The History Plaza is expected to feature a historical timeline, monuments to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and baseball Hall of Famer Clark Griffith. It will also include, refurbished original stadium seats and entrance, a replica covered pavilion, vintage-style lighting and a state of Florida historical marker. 

During the expansion of the Camping World Stadium, parts of the outfield and original grandstands were removed from the field.
