Wawa offers cheaper gas near Orlando International Airport

2 other gas stations near airport charge nearly $6 per gallon

ORLANDO, Fla. – Wawa is opening its newest Central Florida location near Orlando International Airport, promising fair-priced gas in an area where some say price gougers rule.

Gas is specially priced at $2.99 at the location, on Semoran Boulevard and Lee Vista Boulevard, for the next couple of weeks. But the company says its prices will be aligned with its other Orlando locations.

Local 6 has reported extensively for years on the two gas stations off Semoran near the airport that charge nearly $6 per gallon. Suncoast Energys and Sun Gas were forced by the city of Orlando to post clear signage showing the price clearly to drivers, but the price has hardly fluctuated for years.

Wawa says it hopes to "put the brakes" on high-priced gas near the airport.

The grand opening marks the company's 17th Orlando store and 25th in Central Florida. The company has aggressively expanded to Florida over the last year.

In addition to gas, Wawa will offer its signature made-to-order hoagies and snacks as well as the typical convenience store items.

Wawa's CEO Chris Gheysens also attended the grand opening.

The more expensive gas stations appeared to be empty on Thursday as cars lined up for Wawa's cheap prices. The RaceTrac and nearby 7-Eleven dropped their prices to $2.99 on Thursday as well.
