Woman taken into open field, raped near Orlando tourist district

Victim escapes after struggle, calls 911 from nearby resort

ORLANDO, Fla. – UPDATE: Orlando police say they have arrested a man accused of raping a woman near the Orlando tourist district early Tuesday morning.

Police have arrested Joseph Thomas Paul Moore, 31, who they described as a violent sexual predator from Illinois, hours after the attack. Read the new story here.

A woman visiting Orlando on business was dragged into a field and stripped of her clothes near the tourist district of the city before she was able to escape the sex attack, police said.

Orlando police said officers were called around 3:30 a.m. to The Point Orlando on Universal Boulevard and met with the woman, who said she was sexually assaulted in a nearby field while walking from a local tavern to her Hilton hotel room.

The woman said a man dragged her into the field and a struggle ensued, according to police.  The woman said she was able to break away from the man, and she made her way to the lobby of The Point Orlando resort and called 911, according to officials.  

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she's talking to investigators, police said.

The culprit, described by police only as a white man about 25 to 35 years old, remains at large.

Orlando police officials said they are questioning a person but did not call him a person of interest.

Anyone with information about the sex attack is asked to call the Orlando Police Department or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
