Disney workers vote down proposed contract

Union wants greater pay increase

ORLANDO, Fla. – A union representing Disney workers voted Wednesday to reject a proposed contract from company leaders.

Unite Here Central Florida says 93 percent of the workers voted down the proposal. Union leaders had asked members to vote "no."

The deal would have given workers an immediate 50-cent-per-hour raise, but the union wants wages to start at $15 per hour.

Disney released a statement after the vote: "We are disappointed that the union rejected our fair and reasonable offer of a 6 to 10 percent wage increase over the next two years and we will continue to work with the union on negotiations."

The two sides have been in talks for months about a new contract without coming to an agreement.
