He will become Tennessee’s fifth head coach, not counting interim or acting coaches, since the end of the 2008 season. Scott Carr, deputy AD for brand activation, is now serving as interim director of athletics, and defensive coordinator Randy Shannon will serve as interim head coach. He also served as interim head coach at Florida in 2017. “We would like to thank Coach Heupel for his contributions to UCF, and we wish Josh, Dawn, Hannah and Jace the best in their new endeavor,” UCF said.

UCF hired White in November 2015, and his first job then was hiring a football coach. Scott Frost left for Nebraska after going 13-0 in 2017, then White hired Josh Heupel. White, whose father Kevin is Duke's AD, has Southeastern Conference experience as senior associate athletics director at Mississippi between 2009-2012. He was associate athletics director for development at California State-Fresno from 2007 to 2009 and a year before that as assistant athletics director for development at Northern Illinois.

The tradition allows fans to cheer on UCF players as the team steps off the bus and head toward the stadium. On Tuesday, the school announced safety measures to be put in place. Fans will not be allowed to move from zone to zone during the game, each area will have adequate restrooms and concessions, according to UCF. Knight Walk, Tailgate Concert Series, March to Victory and the Kids Zone will not take place this season.

The University of Central Florida announced fans will be allowed at the first home football game Monday. UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White said the stadium will be at 25 percent capacity for its Oct. 3 game against Tulsa. White said he hopes to have fans at more home games this fall. With fewer fans at games this year, the university said this will lead to a projected $10-14 million loss. Orlando City soccer is also allowing fans at 20 percent capacity.

The stadium underwent an $8 million renovation following the 2014 season. The Bounce House was the home of the Orlando Apollos in 2019, the only -- and partial -- season of the Alliance of American Football.
