MELBOURNE, Fla – Eau Gallie High School students in Brevard County are making news after helping NASA with 250 special wires that are currently being used in space. “It’s called an EV or extravehicular wire,” said William McInnish, the aviation technology teacher at Eau Gallie High School. The students are enrolled in Eau Gallie High School’s aviation program, which is the only certified aerospace aircraft assembly program at a high school level in the nation. The school program has also been a part of building storage lockers for NASA, which are used to transport food and experiments among other essentials. Melbourne police are investigating after a car with a body inside was found in the Eau Gallie River near Ballard Park Tuesday morning, News 6 partner Florida Today reported. Lt. Trevor Schaffer said detectives are gathering evidence in what is being described as a “suspicious incident” at the public boat ramps. Witnesses at the scene said the car was discovered when boaters discovered something floating in the water before noticing the license plate beneath the surface. Detectives and crime scene investigators along with a dive team were present at the scene throughout the morning. Police are asking anyone who may have captured the car on surveillance video to call them at 321-608-6481.

EAU GALLIE, Fla. – A student brought a gun in his backpack to Eau Gallie High School on Monday, prompting a brief shelter in place order on campus, according to Brevard Public Schools. The campus was put into a shelter-in-place status Monday morning as a result of a possible threat made on social media, according to BPS. A student was found with a gun in his backpack and taken into custody. It’s unclear what the student is charged with. “At no time were our students or staff in harm’s way and normal school operations continued through the shelter in place, which has since been lifted,” BPS said in a statement.
