POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man brought an 8-year-old boy with him as he committed a series of crimes because he wanted to “toughen him up” so the child wouldn’t become “soft,” according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man shot a friend he was doing drugs with during an argument, then stashed a sawed-off shotgun at a home and told the residents there he was “borrowing” their car, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the victim and his girlfriend went to 48-year-old Clyde Burton Davis’s home in Lakeland around 2 p.m. Tuesday to do drugs and at some point, the victim and Davis got into an argument that resulted in Davis shooting the man in the chest. Deputies said they searched Davis’s home and found meth, heroin, digital scales, baggies, syringes, a meth pipe and shotgun shells. His wife is facing charges of possession of meth and paraphernalia, possession of heroin and maintaining a residence for drug use.

A white former Philadelphia police officer was charged Friday with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Black man after a high-speed car chase nearly three years ago. Four other officers who were on the scene and had taken cover did not fire their weapons, according to a grand jury presentment. The grand jury said Ruch shot Plowden in the head without justification as Plowden looked “dazed and lost on the sidewalk." According to the grand jury, Ruch and his partner began following Plowden and asked police dispatch to check the registration of his car. Ruch fired the fatal shot just 6 to 8 seconds after getting to the crash scene, the grand jury said.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Flagler County deputies say a road-rage incident on Interstate 95 led them to discover an “arsenal of weapons” and a “trafficking amount of drugs” in the suspect vehicle. Deputies said they pulled over the Hyundai shortly after the road-rage incident was reported and found 26-year-old Kelvisha Renarda Johnson in the driver’s seat and 24-year-old Ruvon Anthony Washington in the passenger’s seat. “Not only did they have an arsenal of weapons and a trafficking amount of drugs in the car, but they carelessly and dangerously exposed a gun to an innocent driver on the highway,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “When you mix guns and trafficking amounts of drugs, nothing good comes out of that combination. Johnson is facing charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana under 20 grams and carrying a concealed weapon.

The Kia recall covers nearly 229,000 Sedona minivans from the 2006 through 2010 model years. Last April, NHTSA opened two new investigations into fires involving Hyundai and Kia vehicles after getting complaints of more than 3,100 fires and 103 injuries. The investigations, one for Hyundai and the other for Kia, cover noncrash fires in almost 3 million vehicles from the affiliated automakers. NHTSA had previously said it would incorporate the noncrash fires into a 2017 investigation that examined recalls of Hyundai and Kia vehicles for engine failures. So far, Hyundai and Kia have recalled about 2.4 million vehicles to fix problems that can cause fires and engine failures.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A dirt bike rider was seriously injured in a crash involving a sedan in Melbourne, according to police. Officers said the crash took place Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Aurora and North Wickham roads. According to police, the boy was riding a Suzuki dirt bike east along the sidewalk on the north side of Aurora Road when he crossed over Wickham Road and was thrown from the bike into the path of a Hyundai going west on Aurora Road. The boy, whose name and age have not been released, was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, police said. Officers have not said what caused the boy to be thrown from the bike, or whether the woman driving the Hyundai will face charges.
