The Madden-Julian Oscillation can enhance or suppress tropical development as the disturbance moves around the world. When the Atlantic is under the influence of downward motion or sinking air, tropical development becomes less likely. When the convective or enhanced phase of the MJO sneaks into the Atlantic Basin, tropical development can become more likely.

But Florida wildlife officials urge those who come across exposed turtle eggs or stranded baby turtles to not collect them. Federal and state laws protect sea turtles and forbid taking, possessing, disturbing, mutilating, destroying, selling and harassing all types of sea turtles, their nests and their eggs. Even better in Brevard County, call the local nonprofit Sea Turtle Preservation Society's emergency hotline at 321-206-0646 if you find a sea turtle in need. This years sea turtle nesting season is already a success, and the storm season will not change that fact, STPS posted on its website.

Though the state-supported sites closed because they’re set up outdoors and can’t handle wind and rain, many private sites continued operating through the weekend. Still, officials have said that the free sites closing temporarily could have an impact on the state’s coronavirus figures. On the flip side, Mike Jachles from the Florida Department of Emergency Management said there could be at least one benefit to the decrease in testing.

The tropical wave is expected to move through the Leeward Islands, and near or over the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Wednesday night.
