Health officials in Osceola County have announced plans to close one COVID-19 testing site in the community before opening a new one later this week, according to a news release. Officials with the Florida Department of Health in Osceola County said they plan to end coronavirus testing at Osceola Heritage Park on Thursday. Beginning Friday, drive-thru COVID-19 testing will be offered at 1875 Fortune Road in Kissimmee on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Osceola County Health Department Assistant Administrator Bret Smith said people were lining up hours before testing began during the week. We've had to shut the lines off at 7:30 because it already had that many people in the line," Smith said. Health department officials said turnout at the park shows the demand for testing is high and that is why they extended their hours to offer free testing on Saturday. The health department is continuing to offer free testing Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Coronavirus testing will take place at Osceola Heritage Park from July 6-10, according to the department of health. The DOH said testing will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park and appointments are not required for this drive-thru testing event. Health officials said they scheduled the testing after the recent demand for more testing as coronavirus cases rise in Florida. A list of testing sites in Osceola County can be found here. More than 2,000 people have tested positive for the virus in the county, 197 people have been hospitalized from COVID-19 and 24 people have died in the county, according to the DOH.

Mecum Auctions announced Tuesday that it will host an auction with 1,000 cars at Osceola Heritage Park from Aug. 27-29. Those who are unable to attend in person will be permitted to bid on vehicles online and by phone. For those who do make it out to the event, Mecum Auctions founder and president Dana Mecum said safety will be a priority. We want to be somewhere where were very familiar with the grounds, he said.
