A constitutional amendment requiring any expansion of gambling to be approved by Florida voters in 2018 included many forms of gaming, but not sports betting, according to attorneys for Gov. Ron DeSantis urging the Florida Supreme Court to reject a lawsuit to stop online sports betting in the state.

The Seminole Tribe can move forward with its plans to expand casino games and offer sports betting at its Florida facilities and online, even as a case to stop that is being heard in the Florida Supreme Court.

Online sports betting is now live in Florida, albeit in a limited setting, and two companies suing the Seminole Tribe want it to stop.
