The affordable housing community will sit on a 20-acre site that the company has pledged for exclusive use in an effort to help one of the region’s most challenging problems: the lack of affordable housing. Officials said Universal will donate the land to a nonprofit entity and work with the developer to ensure the property is used for affordable housing in perpetuity. Universal said it will manage the developer selection process and will also work to create the development agreement with Orange County. The mayor stood alongside Universal Parks executives to announce the initiative, which would increase affordable housing units near Universal Orlando Resort. The mayor said county officials and Universal will work together to determine how to structure the agreement. The money the county says will come out of the Community Redevelopment Area (CRA funds) specifically for the I-Drive corridor.
