A 26-year-old Sarasota man was bitten by a shark while wading in an inner tube at New Smyrna Beach, according to Volusia County Beach Safety.

The beachgoer was bitten while playing football in the water on Thursday afternoon, according to county officials.

The boy was pulled from the water near the 1900 block north of Ormond Beach and was found unresponsive, authorities said. The boy eventually was pronounced deceased at the hospital, authorities said. The boy’s grandfather and grandmother were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
