OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A pickup truck ran off the road and struck a tree Friday night in Osceola County, leaving the driver dead and his passenger badly hurt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. on U.S. Highway 441, north of Williams Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 2005 Ford F-250 was traveling south on U.S. 441 when its driver — a 19-year-old Kenansville man — lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The Ford left the roadway and the driver overcorrected, causing the truck to rotate counterclockwise before it left the roadway again and its right side struck a tree, the report states.

The Kenansville man was pronounced dead at the scene while the other occupant — a 20-year-old St. Cloud man — was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to FHP. Troopers believe the St. Cloud man was wearing a seat belt during the crash while the Kenansville man was not.

A roadblock that was established for both directions of travel was cleared later in the night, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
