BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The driver of a minivan was killed in a crash with a cement truck in Brevard County on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened in the area of US-1 and 1st Street around 3 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Chrysler minivan was driving south on US-1 approach 1st Street in the inside lane.

At the same time, a Mack cement truck was traveling north on US-1, north of 1st Street in the inside lane.
Troopers said for unknown reasons, the driver of the minivan – identified as an 81-year-old Barefoot Bay man – crossed over the median and entered the direct path of the cement truck.
As a result, the front of the minivan struck the front of the cement truck.
According to the report, the driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the cement truck, identified as a 57-year-old Lake Worth man, suffered minor injuries.
Troopers said debris from the crash struck a nearby pickup truck, but no injuries were reported to the driver or passenger of that vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
