Front brings severe storms to Central Florida

Central Florida to see highs in mid-70s on Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. – A front brought rain and strong storms to Central Florida on Friday before cooling down the region.

Orlando will see a high of 86 degrees, with a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The average high on this date is 81. The rain is expected to linger into the night.

Some Central Florida areas will continue to see severe weather including tornado-producing conditions throughout the evening on Friday.

Here's the latest on the watches and warnings issues Friday:

A tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service at 4:45 p.m. for parts of Lake and Orange counties, including the areas of Ocoee, Winter Garden, Windermere and Universal Studios. The warning expired at 5:15 p.m.

Seminole, Brevard, Orange, Volusia and Osceola counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:15 p.m. with the potential for 60 mph wind gusts.

Wind gusts up to 52 mph were reported on Friday evening at Orlando Executive Airport and up to 47 mph in Kissimmee.

Sumter County was placed under a tornado warning just after 4 p.m. that ended at 4:30 p.m.

A tornado touch down was reported in the Tampa Bay area injuring one person, according to officials. In Hernando County Fire Rescue teams responded after a possible tornado ripped through the area taking with it multiple roofs.

"If you’re making Friday night plans, make sure you have the rain gear because rain will be a factor into the late-night hours," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. "Some storms could be strong, even in the later hours."

 

Northern counties will cool into the 50s overnight, while much of the central sections will be near 60.

Once the front clears Central Florida, the region will dry out and see more sunshine.

The high on Saturday will be 74, with sunny skies. Rain chances return Sunday, however, at 70 percent.

Sunday's high will bounce back to 82.

Next workweek starts with temperatures in the mid-80s and rain chances at 20-30 percent on Monday and Tuesday.
