ORLANDO, Fla. – Another name, Sean, was crossed off the list last week and it appears we are headed toward another named storm by the end of this week.
A tropical disturbance, dubbed Invest 94 L, remains unorganized in the middle of the Central Atlantic.
Environmental conditions, however, are expected to become more favorable for development as it approaches the Lesser Antilles, and a tropical depression is likely to form by midweek.
Those in the Caribbean should pay close attention to the progress of this disturbance as land interaction looks likely at the moment.
Beyond the Caribbean, it appears the system will sharply curve to the north, avoiding the Southeast U.S.
While nothing is concrete, some model guidance is hinting at development during the third week of October in the western Caribbean. This is likely in response to conditions becoming favorable due to increased thunderstorm activity sparked by the phenomenon known as the Madden-Julian Oscillation.
This is the region of the Atlantic basin where we would tend to look for development late in the season.
The next named storm will be called Tammy.
Hurricane season runs through November.
