Gray and soggy for days in Central Florida. Here’s your forecast

Series of fronts to pass through Orlando area

Fronts head to Central Florida (maxuser)

ORLANDO, Fla. – After a chilly start Wednesday across Central Florida, temperatures will begin to warm up to near 70 degrees through the afternoon.

Along with the warmer temperatures, more cloud cover will be overhead through the day as the next cold front approaches.

Starting Wednesday night, our overall pattern will transition into a more active outlook through the weekend.

The latest in a series of cold fronts is expected to arrive late Wednesday night and into overnight Thursday morning. Unlike Monday’s front, there looks to me more moisture available with this approaching front.

The best chances of rain (60-80%) will remain for areas north of the Kissimmee to Titusville line, with coverage a bit lower for areas south. Although most of the activity should be weak, we can’t rule out the chance of a brief wind gust or lightning strike into the early morning hours of Thursday.

After the passage of the front by daybreak Thursday, temperatures will fall back into the 60s during the afternoon as skies gradually clear. After a quick cooldown, temperatures are expected to climb once again as another front nears the region by Saturday.

High temps

Expect temperatures into the weekend to reach the mid-70s, with rain returning by Saturday.

By sunrise on Saturday, showers and storms will be approaching our northern counties, with widespread showers and storms forecast areawide during the morning and afternoon as a stronger front enters Central Florida.  Primary storm threats include lightning, gusty winds, heavy downpours and even small hail.

As of the latest model run, although storms could be strong the potential for severe storms looks to be limited.

Don’t put away the raingear just yet, though, as the active wet weather looks to stick around through the rest of the weekend and into early next week, with coverage hovering between 40-60%.

Long-range models bring an even stronger storm Monday night, which will have the potential for strong to severe storms by Tuesday afternoon and into the evening.
