ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is continuing to monitor a region in the southwest Gulf of Mexico for potential tropical development.
As of the 8 a.m. update Saturday, a large area of low pressure was expected to develop in the Bay of Campeche. Favorable atmospheric conditions are likely to support additional tropical development as we move into next week, possibly leading to the formation of a tropical depression by mid-week.
Regardless of development, tropical moisture is expected to flow into Central Florida from the eastern side of the low pressure area during the first half of the week, keeping rain chances in the range of 30-40%.

Many cities across Central Florida are expected to pick up between 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts in the next seven days.
The rain is much-needed due to drought concerns.
Along the coast of Texas and Louisiana, rainfall projections for the next seven days range from 5 to 10 inches, with the potential for even higher amounts in localized areas. Significant rain is expected across parts of Central America and Mexico throughout the week.
