Tropical wave near Florida expected to increase rain chances in Central Florida

Invest 92L could become a tropical depression as it approaches northeast coast of Florida

2 p.m update

ORLANDO, Fla. – The NHC has highlighted a weak tropical wave called Invest 92L east of the Florida coast. Latest tropical models show that it’ll continue to move towards the northeast coast of Florida by Thursday night and Friday, bringing more showers and tropical downpours to Central Florida.

Tropical models

Conditions look to be marginally favorable for further development. It could develop into a tropical depression before it approaches the coast. The NHC has placed a 40% chance of tropical development.

Regardless of development, it’ll definitely bring more tropical moisture as it moves northeast into the weekend.

2 p.m update

Thursday night, rain chances stay moderate at 40%.

As we move into early Friday, those rain chances bump up to 50% to 60% as the tropical wave gets closer to the coast. The heaviest rain looks like it’ll hit Thursday evening into Friday morning, though how much rain we get will depend on exactly where the system goes.

Rain

On top of the extra rain and clouds, this tropical low is stirring up some strong winds out on the Atlantic.

We’re looking at breezy to gusty conditions once more heading into Friday, with winds picking up to 15-20 mph and gusts reaching 20-30 mph.

If you’re planning to hit the beach or go boating, be cautious as conditions are risky. There’s a high chance of rip currents and a high surf advisory in effect, with waves breaking at 5-7 feet. Small craft should also heed the advisory.

Coastal hazards

Tropical moisture is expected to continue to stream in from the south keeping rain chances high this weekend.
