ORLANDO, Fla. – The tropical low that the National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring for some development on Friday will continue to track toward the Florida-Georgia line later in the afternoon.
The National Hurricane Center is highlighting this area, giving it a 50% chance of further tropical development before it moves onshore. Hurricane Hunters are on standby to fly into the area Friday afternoon, if necessary.
Regardless of development, locally heavy rain is expected to pinwheel into parts of Central Florida.
Expect a better shot for tropical downpours across the northern half of the area that could receive the bulk of the rain today with accumulations of 1-2 inches of rain. After a short lull after the morning activity on the radar, a few showers and storms could develop later in the afternoon along and north of the I-4 corridor.
For those south of Orlando, due to the limited cooling rain factor, temperatures will climb into the mid-to-lower 90s with heat indices between 100-105 degrees.
With added tropical moisture in place for the weekend, expect rain chances to become more widespread both Saturday and Sunday afternoons as the sea breezes collide.
Rain chances will go from 60% of Saturday and then up to 70% by Sunday and into early next week. Temperatures through the extended forecast is expected to stay warm, in the low 90s with heat indices approaching 100-107 degrees.
