ORLANDO, Fla. – The trend of dangerous heat continues through the rest of the 4th of July holiday weekend as heat indices climb as high as 110 degrees.
Friday morning is starting off warm and muggy, with temperatures near 80 degrees and plenty of lingering smoke from fireworks. Most of the smoke should start to mix out of the area through the morning hours.
Official highs are forecast to be near 90 degrees along the coast and into the mid-90s further inland. Peak afternoon heat indices should remain in the triple digits areawide. The highest values will be felt west of I-95, with temperatures feeling like 108-110 degrees.
A heat advisory will be in effect from 12-6 p.m. for Lake, Sumter, Marion, Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties.
Along with the heat, Central Floridians will have to dodge another day of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The east coast sea breeze is forecast to push inland quickly on Friday, keeping rain chances minimal along the coastline (20-30%).
A few storms will develop as the boundary tracks west along I-4 and neighborhoods to the west (50-60%), with most of the activity tapering off before sundown.
A persistent weather pattern continues as a large ridge of high pressure stays in control. Expect more of the same with dangerous heat indices and scattered storms through the afternoon and early evening in the coming days.
