Cape Canaveral Hospital evacuating ahead of Hurricane Milton

Evacuation orders have not been issued yet

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Health First is evacuating Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach ahead of Hurricane Milton.

The city of Cocoa Beach made the announcement Tuesday afternoon on Facebook, noting there were no evacuation orders for the barrier islands yet.

The hospital said the move was out of an abundance of caution since Cocoa Beach could see 74 mph winds and heavy rainfall because of the storm.

The hospital is transferring patients to Holmes Regional Medical Center, Palm Bay Hospital and Viera Hospital for their safety and securing the facility. Once the storm passes they will assess it for any damage before reopening to new patients.

The hospital will not be open during the storm.

Health First was already planning to close all of its outpatient facilities and services in Brevard County on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and reopen them on Friday after safety assessments.

According to the state’s Hurricane Milton website, 10 hospitals have reported evacuations in Florida so far.
