ORLANDO, Fla. – Airports across Central Florida are closing or preparing to close operations because of Hurricane Milton.
The storm is sure to affect flight operations across the state because of its expected sheer size when it makes landfall.

Central Florida/Tampa Bay

ST. PETE-CLEARWATER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Hurricane Milton Update - Airport to close after last flight departs Tuesday. All flights canceled Wednesday and Thursday.
ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT/ORLANDO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT
Officials said Orlando International Airport will cease commercial passenger operations at 8 a.m. Wednesday, October 9 and at 10 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, at Orlando Executive Airport (ORL).
While these airports will cease commercial operations, they are not closed to emergency/aid and relief flights and will remain open as necessary. Commercial operations will resume as soon as possible based on damage assessment.
Hurricane preparations throughout the facility, including sandbagging doors and tying down all boarding bridges, are being finalized.
GOAA officials reminded the public that MCO is not an authorized shelter. The airport cannot accommodate local residents during severe weather events.
ORLANDO SANFORD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Orlando Sanford International Airport will cease commercial operations starting Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 8 a.m. due to Hurricane Milton. Passengers should plan accordingly and stay tuned for further updates. Please note, SFB is not a designated shelter—check with local authorities or Seminole County Citizen Information Line at (407) 665-0000 for shelter information.

“If you are an Allegiant customer with a flight this week and have questions about how Hurricane Milton will impact your flight, please visit Allegiant’s Travel Alerts website. Passengers with impacted flights will be contacted directly by Allegiant’s Customer Care team.”
MELBOURNE-ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) will close to commercial flight operations at 2 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen at 9 a.m. Friday due to Hurricane Milton. MLB will remain open during the duration of the storm for emergency operations. We remind the public that the airport is not a shelter, and travelers are encouraged to check their flight status directly with the airline.
We remain vigilant as we monitor the approach of Hurricane Milton and will share updates as more information becomes available.
DAYTONA BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) will cease commercial passenger and private operations in advance of Hurricane Milton at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.
All flights after this time are canceled, except for government, emergency and humanitarian aircraft.
Resumption of commercial service at DAB will be determined after post-storm inspections. Passengers should check with their airlines for updates to flight schedules.
As a reminder, the airport is not a designated shelter.
SARASOTA-BRADENTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Due to Hurricane Milton, the airport will close on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. Please contact your airline directly for flight status.
South Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
We continue to monitor Hurricane Milton as it nears Florida’s Gulf Coast region. While Broward County, where FLL is located, is not on the storm’s forecast path, we will likely get some bad weather here. FLL is currently open and operational. However, airlines have canceled flights to key storm-affected areas, so check for updated flight status before coming to our airport.
PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
PBI is currently open and operational. Airport officials are monitoring the forecast for Milton. We will announce any change in operations on social media and on our website at pbia.org. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information.
KEY WEST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Hurricane Milton update: The airport is open and operating as usual. Please monitor your flight itinerary, plan accordingly and contact your airline regarding any changes.
PUNTA GORDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
We were notified that Allegiant has canceled flights October 8-10, 2024. However, PGD is not responsible for notifying passengers of Allegiant’s flight changes.

Punta Gorda Airport’s management and operations teams are working to secure the airport property and make preparations for potential impacts from inclement weather.
Punta Gorda Airport and its runways will remain open as long as conditions are safe. However, if winds are sustained at ~50 MPH, aircraft operations and tower operations will cease, and we continue to follow recommendations from Charlotte County Emergency Management.
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
RSW airlines are planning to operate today but look for delays and cancellations. No flights will be operating on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. The short-term parking garage is currently full.
North Florida
JACKSONVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
JAX remains open and operational at this time. For more updated flight information, please check with your airline.
NORTHWEST FLORIDA BEACHES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
