Police issue reminder ahead of Hurricane Milton

SANFORD, Fla. – Hurricane Milton is soon set to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast before moving into Central Florida.

Ahead of the storm’s arrival, Sanford police have issued a reminder on when people should — and shouldn’t — call 911.

The following situations are not considered emergencies:

  • Power outages or blown transformers (unless there is a fire)
  • Minor extremity injuries with no deformities or loss of feeling/circulation
  • Earache/headache
  • Basic hurricane information
  • Minor cuts/abrasions with bleeding stopped, good feeling, and color
  • Sore throat where you are still able to drink/swallow water

For information on Hurricane Milton, residents are instead asked to call the Citizens Information Line at (407) 665-0000.

Meanwhile, police explained that 911 should be called in the following instances:

  • Serious medical problems
  • Fires
  • Choking
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Reporting an active crime (ex: break-ins)
  • When life or property is in danger
  • Chest pain or pressure
