SANFORD, Fla. – Hurricane Milton is soon set to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast before moving into Central Florida.
Ahead of the storm’s arrival, Sanford police have issued a reminder on when people should — and shouldn’t — call 911.

The following situations are not considered emergencies:
- Power outages or blown transformers (unless there is a fire)
- Minor extremity injuries with no deformities or loss of feeling/circulation
- Earache/headache
- Basic hurricane information
- Minor cuts/abrasions with bleeding stopped, good feeling, and color
- Sore throat where you are still able to drink/swallow water
For information on Hurricane Milton, residents are instead asked to call the Citizens Information Line at (407) 665-0000.
Meanwhile, police explained that 911 should be called in the following instances:
- Serious medical problems
- Fires
- Choking
- Difficulty breathing
- Reporting an active crime (ex: break-ins)
- When life or property is in danger
- Chest pain or pressure
