VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – In the wake of Hurricane Milton, the state of Florida, in conjunction with Volusia County, opened three comfort stations for residents this week.

Each site offers restrooms, showers and laundry trailers.

The stations are operational 24 hours a day at the following locations:

  • Pierson Town Center - 116 W. 1st. Ave. in Pierson
  • Stone Island - 401 Stone Island Road in Enterprise
  • Road & Bridge Office - 2560 W. State Road 44 in DeLand (access via Carlis Road)

Volusia County leaders said earlier this week that Milton caused an estimated $267 million worth of damage to over 5,100 properties.

“During the storm itself, we saw the highest rain level that we officially got from the National Weather Service was in Ormond Beach, believe it or not 16.52 inches. The lowest level we saw was approximately 7.5 inches,” said Clint Mecham, director of emergency management in Volusia County.

Volusia County residents impacted by Milton can also apply for federal assistance, as FEMA has declared the county a disaster area. This declaration unlocks individual and public assistance, as well as hazard mitigation, to help in recovery.

Residents can submit their applications online at disasterassistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app, or by calling 800-621-3362.
